Olivia first heard about court reporting from her sister-in-law and aunt, who are both experienced court reporters. At a time when she was unsure about her career path in college, their advice to try Plaza College’s A-to-Z class gave her a direction — and she was hooked immediately. “I gave it a shot and loved it right away,” she says.

Now testing at 225 words per minute in Plaza College’s Court Reporting program, Olivia describes her experience as nothing short of amazing. “I’ve loved every single teacher I’ve had — they’ve all been so supportive,” she shares. From early-morning calls to answering countless questions, the faculty’s guidance made her feel fully supported throughout the program.

Court reporting school is intense, and Olivia has committed fully. She spends long hours on her machine, often from 7 a.m. until class begins, with occasional breaks for weekends and nights out. “It’s definitely time-consuming, but I love it,” she says. That dedication paid off quickly, helping her progress steadily while building both skill and confidence.

Her strategy? Strong preparation in theory, memorization, and snapping up every tip from teachers. Combined with consistent practice, these habits helped her excel and stay ahead of the curve.

Motivation for Olivia comes from more than just career goals. Initially, she wanted a job change, but once she discovered her love for the craft, court reporting became a personal mission. “I’m excited for the stability I’ll have, and for the life I’m building with my boyfriend,” she says.

Looking ahead, Olivia plans to start in freelance work and hopes to transition into court — ideally in criminal. With her speed, focus, and love for the profession, it’s clear she’s ready for the challenges ahead.
