Surgical Technology

Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)

Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.  With a range of surgical cases and the use of the most modern medical technology on a daily basis, a career in surgical technology is endlessly interesting.

WHAT IS SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY?

As highly-trained and specialized healthcare professionals, Surgical Technologists work alongside doctors and nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgical procedures. They assist in preparing patients for their surgeries and prepping the operating room for procedures from general surgery to intricate specialties like cardiac, thoracic, neurosurgery, and more.
