Meet Christopher, a Plaza College student whose journey back to college is driven by a deeper purpose. For Christopher, returning to academia wasn’t just about earning a degree – it was a step toward fulfilling a deeper purpose. As a working professional with years of experience in an emergency room, Christopher enrolled in Plaza College’s Allied Health program to take the next step toward a future in Nursing.

Christopher’s decision to begin the Allied Health program was to complete the required prerequisite courses for Plaza College’s competitive Nursing program. Having already experienced both the intensity and fulfillment of patient care, he knew healthcare was where he belonged. What continues to motivate him, however, is the daily encouragement he receives from those around him.

“The immense amount of encouragement and support that I receive every single day from the faculty as well as my peers as we take this journey together is outstanding.”

His professional background has given him perspective on the demands of healthcare – but also on the rewards that make the hard work worthwhile. He is driven by a passion for delivering excellent patient care.

“Seeing that smile on [my patient’s face] is a feeling that’s hard to beat. That is why I work so hard every day.”

Like many working adults returning to school, Christopher approached his decision carefully. Unsure at first where to begin his journey back into nursing, he found reassurance in Plaza College’s faculty, who met his uncertainty with patience, clarity, and genuine care.

“From the first Zoom call alone, I saw the actual care within this community and how tightly connected they were – like family.”

That sense of understanding and support made all the difference, helping Christopher feel confident in committing to his education while managing the responsibilities of everyday life.

Balancing coursework with work and personal obligations is a challenge many adult learners face, and Christopher has found success through organization and intention. Plaza’s flexible scheduling allowed him to personalize his classes, while writing everything down became a key strategy for staying focused.

“What’s truly important to you will always take priority in your day-to-day.”

On tougher days, when motivation wavers, Christopher grounds himself in the bigger picture—remembering that his education is about more than just himself.

“This career is bigger than me. I’m reminded that pouring back into my community is the priority.”

One particularly meaningful moment came after completing his midterms. Christopher realized that not only was he succeeding academically, but he had rediscovered something he hadn’t expected: he had a genuine love for learning. What once felt intimidating now felt natural and empowering.

“When assignments and exams began to feel like less of a task and more like an opportunity to prove to myself that I can accomplish difficult things, I knew I was in the right space.”

As he looks ahead to applying to Plaza College’s Nursing program, Christopher is excited rather than nervous to face the challenges to come. Growing alongside classmates who share similar goals and life experiences is something he values deeply.

“Being in a program that not only challenges my mind but allows me to grow alongside my peers is what really matters to me.”

Christopher’s experience reflects Plaza College’s commitment to supporting working professionals—students who bring real-world experience, determination, and heart into the classroom. Through flexibility, encouragement, and a strong sense of community, the Allied Health program helps students move forward with confidence toward impactful careers in healthcare.
