Recently, interns from the New York State Unified Court System’s summer internship program visited Plaza College for two “Intro to Steno” courses, guided by Court Reporting program Director Karen Santucci. The sessions provided a hands-on introduction to the steno machine including a brief lesson on how to read steno and navigating the steno machine’s unique keyboard.
Additionally, interns also learned about the diverse responsibilities of court reporters, from capturing courtroom dialogue to transcribing legal documents. There was also an emphasis on the growing need for court reporters and the opportunities available in the field including freelance and virtual work.
Students participated in a raffle and were encouraged to register for two upcoming court reporting events: The Court Reporting Symposium: an in person event held on August 8th, featuring professionals in the field and a live radio broadcast featuring Arthur Aidala on AM 970 and Steno Stars, a virtual court reporting open house on August 15th.
