Tehila Yushua is a Medical Assisting student who plans on graduating in spring semester 2025! For Tehila, receiving the recognition for the Student Spotlight is an honor because “it’s not always easy to get good grades. You have to constantly be on top of your academics and class participation.”
Tehila was inspired to start her educational journey in the Medical Assisting major so that she can eventually apply for the Bachelors of Nursing at Plaza College. “I’d like to work in the field of psychology. I enjoy learning how the brain works and how people are affected by their environments. I really loved Professor Cirigliano’s course, ‘Developmental Psychology.’ I want to work with people struggling with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and similar diagnoses, eventually becoming a Nurse Practitioner for this speciality.” Professor Modali says, “Every now and then, as professors, we encounter a student who truly captures the rewarding nature of teaching. Tehila was basically the definition of that student. In fact, I remember several times, in LS195, she asked many questions in class and they were often complex and multifaceted, and she always wanted those video explanations that we discussed in class! I remember the emails asking for the specific videos on fat absorption, even though they weren’t even on the exam. Whenever I find this happening in a student, it shows genuine interest, which is difficult to achieve in medical sciences, considering how dry some of the topics can seemingly be. Tehila’s curiosity was backed by her scores, and more importantly she truly showed a depth of understanding typically found in professional medical programs such as medical school and nursing school. Tehila’s drive to learn is obvious, and I have no doubt she will succeed in any career path that she chooses. I wish her luck, even though I know her drive for knowledge will take her further!”
Her most memorable moments in the Medical Assisting program was when she first started to do vital signs and EKG with Professor Uddin. She’s learned so much from the clinical courses and makes a point to complete all her assignments durings the weekdays, so that she can leave her weekends open. She helps her parents daily when it comes to preparing her siblings’ school uniforms and lunches at night, and then taking them to the bus in the morning. The rest of her day is dedicated to studying and homework. Professor Uddin says, “It is my pleasure to mention that Tehila was my student in Clinical-I (AH0010) spring 2024 class. Tehila was one of my best students, always eager to learn, focused, attentive, regularly participating in all class works with respect for others. Tehila has a very pleasant personality with excellent team spirit. I hope she will be very successful in her education and career. Students like Tehila gave me a very high level of satisfaction in teaching and I wish her the best of success in life.”
For the fall season she looks forward to trying a pumpkin spice latte. She also enjoys going on walks and seeing the leaves turn different colors. Her favorite show on Netflix is “Julie and the Phantoms.”
