Meet Melissa, a dedicated student in Plaza College’s Allied Health Sciences Associate Degree program, with aspirations to enter the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Melissa’s journey into healthcare is deeply personal and began years ago when she donated bone marrow for her sister’s successful sickle cell anemia transplant. This experience solidified her passion for helping others and inspired her decision to pursue a career in healthcare. She has gained a range of professional experience, including roles as a unit coordinator, patient care technician, instructor, and curriculum developer.
Now at Plaza College, Melissa embraces every opportunity, earning Semester Awards, joining multiple honor societies, and finding a supportive community that fosters her academic success. She values the college’s resources, such as the nursing simulation room, and credits Plaza for helping her overcome barriers. Her drive, resilience, and commitment to patient care inspire her peers and position her to become a future leader in healthcare. Beyond academics, Melissa enjoys spending time with her daughter, who loves to bake, and indulging in her favorite treats—dulce de leche with pumpkin pie or vanilla ice cream topped with rainbow sprinkles.
