Meet Chantel, a dedicated student in Plaza College’s Surgical Technology program. After earning her AAS Degree in Medical Assisting from Plaza College in 2016, Chantel decided to continue building upon her healthcare education and pursue a career in Surgical Technology. Growing up in a family of healthcare professionals, she always knew this was the right path for her.
Chantel particularly enjoys the hands-on nature of her studies, especially in lab and clinical settings. Currently completing her clinical rotation at Elmhurst Hospital, she has already scrubbed into a D&E, observed a thyroidectomy, an amputation, and an incision and drainage procedure.
She credits the lab and clinical experiences for providing thorough preparation, stating, “The professors conduct modeling in the lab, like performing a hysterectomy on a mannequin and having us participate.”
