On Friday, April 25, 2025, the beautiful Plaza Commons was filled with energy and excitement as we gathered to celebrate the achievements of students who completed the Bootcamp and to welcome our newest students at the Spring 2025 Bootcamp Celebration and Career Pathways Orientation. It was an afternoon of community, inspiration, and valuable guidance to launch an exciting academic journey.
The program began with a warm welcome and introductions from Dr. Callahan, setting a positive tone for the day. Director Nixon followed with remarks outlining key components of the Advisement and Career Pathways Program and reviewed important classroom expectations. George Fielack introduced the Academic Resource Center (ARC), highlighting the vital support systems available throughout each student’s academic journey. Director Pokidaylo and Ms. Clarke from Career Services shared essential career readiness resources, including résumé workshops, job fairs, and personalized counseling opportunities.
Adding to the day’s educational value, Director Cohn led a Student Engagement and Study Skills Workshop, offering students practical tools and strategies to strengthen their academic performance and make the most of their college experience.
A highlight of the afternoon was hearing firsthand from alumni success stories. Catherine Wright shared her journey from completing Bootcamp to earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, joining multiple honor societies, and participating in service initiatives such as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. She encouraged students to attend engagement workshops and get involved in philanthropic activities, emphasizing how these experiences enhanced both her academic and professional development.
Felisha Perez followed with an inspiring story of resilience and determination. After starting her academic journey in Bootcamp, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree and pursue graduate studies. Felisha offered practical advice for success in the Career Pathways program, highlighting three key strategies: stay accountable, prioritize organization, and actively seek mentorship.
The event concluded with a lively student Q&A session, raffle prize giveaways, and the distribution of certificates recognizing student accomplishments. Students then split into groups for guided campus tours led by Ms. Vargas and Director Sawh, gaining a firsthand look at the resources and community spaces available to them.
We were proud to celebrate these milestones and look forward to all that lies ahead for our new and continuing students. Here’s to a bright future!
