KAYLEE

Surgical Technology Student

Kaylee is a dedicated Surgical Technology student at Plaza College, preparing for a meaningful and impactful career in the operating room. From the classrooms to the labs, she has embraced the rigorous coursework and has discovered a genuine passion for surgical care.

“Although it was challenging, I learned an incredible amount and found the material both interesting and essential to my growth.”

Her favorite courses – Pharmacology and Surgical Procedures – were instrumental in shaping her academic journey. Pharmacology strengthened her foundational knowledge of the material; Surgical Procedures aligned closely with her clinical experiences, allowing her to connect theory with hands-on practice. These courses helped build her confidence and deepened her understanding of operating room procedures.

Building on her academic studies, Kaylee completed clinical rotations at St. Francis Hospital, Mount Sinai Queens, EMU, and Montefiore. These hands-on experiences sharpened her collaborative skills with healthcare professionals and exposed her to diverse surgical procedures.

“Stay dedicated, stay organized, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”

Kaylee encourages incoming and current Surgical Technology students to stay determined throughout their studies. She acknowledges that the workload can be demanding, but emphasizes how rewarding it is to make a difference in a patient’s life. As students enter clinical rotations, she believes they will be amazed by their own growth as they collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the entire OR team.

Beyond her coursework, Kaylee is an active member of the campus community. As Vice President of the Surgical Technology Student Club, she enjoys helping the organization grow and supporting her peers through events such as the club’s recent bake sale. She values Plaza’s strong sense of connection, noting that the college offers a uniquely supportive and uplifting environment.

“Plaza has the strongest sense of community I’ve ever experienced.”

After completing her program, Kaylee plans to begin her career as a surgical technologist in an ambulatory center or a private plastic surgery practice. And eventually, she hopes to return to Plaza to pursue the Physician Assistant program (that is currently in development). Kaylee’s transformative experience in the Surgical Technology program has motivated her to continue her education down the line.

Kaylee’s journey highlights the strength of the Plaza College Surgical Technology program and the opportunities it creates for students to learn, grow, and build meaningful careers in healthcare.
