Physician Assistant Studies
Master of Science (M.S.)
*This program is currently in development and not yet enrolling students.
The developing Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) program is a 24-month, full-time, in-person intensive education and training program that integrates practical skills, simulation training, and didactic education in the pre-clinical phase and nine 5-week clinical rotations in diverse clinical settings. In development at the request of Plaza College’s clinical partners, the PA program is committed to preparing MSPAS graduates to pursue entry-level physician assistant practice in any specialty and setting to meet the workforce needs of our local communities.
Important Accreditation Information: Plaza College has applied for Accreditation-Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The Plaza College Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program anticipates matriculating its first class in September of 2027, pending achieving Accreditation – Provisional status at the April 2027 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
The program will not commence as currently planned in the event that provisional accreditation is not received.
WHAT IS A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT?
Physician Assistants (PAs) are nationally board certified and state licensed healthcare professionals who can practice medicine in every medical specialty and setting in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. PAs are clinicians that work collaboratively with physicians to provide and enhance a team-based approach to healthcare delivery. They conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, perform bedside procedures, assist in surgery, coordinate care, counsel on preventive healthcare, prescribe medication, and more. PAs are qualified to care for patients in every medical and surgical specialty and are found in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings such as surgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, pain management, dermatology, pediatrics, critical care, neonatology, psychiatry, and family medicine. In addition to their primary role providing clinical care, they can be found in educational, research and administrative roles.
Program Mission
The mission of the Plaza College Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program is to educate and develop highly competent, compassionate, culturally sensitive physician assistants that excel at the practice of medicine.
