JOSE
Paralegal Student
Mr. Jose Soler is a student in the Paralegal Studies Program set to graduate Spring semester 2022! For Mr. Soler, “Student of the Month is a High honor because I never received this type of personal recognition in my prior schooling. It means I’ve accomplished a lot and worked hard for it.” Mr. Soler was inspired to apply for the program because he always liked learning about the law since he was young, aspiring to become a Police Officer. He loved watching shows such as Law & Order, Chicago PD, Hillstreet Blues, as well as Law & Order SVU, which continued to peak his interest of working in this arena. Mr. Soler’s most memorable experience at Plaza College has been his acceptance. “It was a decision for me and my mother to finish my education. I started in the Bootcamp Program and eventually earned my credits for a GED. Now I’m graduating with my Associate Degree because I made a commitment to keep going and not give up. This semester I made the Dean’s List and now I’m receiving a nomination for Student of the Month. It’s been an exciting semester for me!” Director Lazarus shares that, “Mr. Jose Soler is a hard-working and diligent student. He is always prepared for class and completes all assignments in a timely manner. Mr. Soler is courteous and helpful to his classmates. He is an asset to the Paralegal Studies Program and will be an asset to any employer. “
Mr. Soler looks forward to participating in the Poetry Slams with the Department of Student Life coming up for Juneteenth and another in July entitled, “Plaza Voices: Our Stories Through Poetry,” both sponsored by the Sigma Kappa Delta Honor Society. He recalls the first time he read his own work and loved joining this experience from that point on! Mr. Soler is grateful for Plaza College creating a deep understanding of crafting his career journey starting with wonderful Professors who supported his learning to the Department of Career Services who teaches students how to make a great resume that will stand out to employers.
There are two dream jobs that Mr. Soler would love to pursue; the first is to become a lawyer and attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The second would be to become a Police Officer in the Special Victims Unit. Professor McKeithan notes that, “Mr. Soler is such a hard working, bright and dedicated student. He is such a pleasure to have in class. He ALWAYS goes above and beyond in his assignments, making sure to get them done in time. I still remember Mr. Soler’s first semester here at Plaza. He said he came here to fulfill his dream of becoming a NYC Police Officer. He wanted to serve and protect his City. While this is still Mr. Soler’s dream, he wants to continue his academic career to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. One thing I know is that he CAN do it. If he sets his mind to something, he will work at it until he succeeds. Congratulations Mr. Soler on being student of the month, so well deserved and continues to reach for the stars. Mr. Soler explains that his school work is his first priority where other responsibilities are secondary. His favorite study snack is Twizzlers and his favorite show to binge watch is Blue Bloods. He also highly recommends, “The Michael Knowles Show,” a podcast analyzing top stories of politics and pop culture.
